"As a dancer, I possess pretty strong body awareness, but Bobby was able to discover areas that I was unknowingly storing stress - releasing years of tension from my body. Every time I work with him, I leave feeling like my mind and body are at peace. Bobby is a nurturer and will restore your body, mind, and soul."

About

Healer and bodyworker Bobby Marquez stands in a garden, wearing a white shirt, and smiling.

Hello! My name is Bobby Marquez.I'm a practitioner and teacher of Structural Integration, with over a decade of experience in therapeutic massage and bodywork. I'm certified as an HHP and LMT, and have students and clients all across Southern California.I'm trained in a number of modalities, but my speciality is something called Structural Integration. At its essence, this modality helps realign the body by releasing and redistributing the tension in the fascia - The connective tissue surrounding and within all the organs of your body. The goal of this realignment is to create effortless movement in the body that works with gravity instead of struggling against it.If you have stiffness, pain, or if something is catching and clicking - odds are, the fascia is involved. And structural integration can help. You deserve to live without pain. You deserve full range-of-motion. You deserve to express yourself to the fullestGet in touch and let's set your fascia free

"Bobby is the best massage therapist I have ever known. He is the only one I trust to work on me. I've had 8 Spinal Fusions. He always cares about relieving my pain. He has helped me so often with hamstring and/or sciatica pain. I highly recommend him. On a scale of 1-10, he is definitely a 10."

FAQ

All I need is enough space to set up my table, and to walk around it comfortably and safely. So a floor space about the size of a twin bed.

If you choose to wear clothing during your session, please choose something soft enough for me to work through, and for you to move in. EG yoga or athletic wear, pajamas, etc.

My specialty and passion is Structural Integration - but I am also trained in Neuromuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Joint Mobilization, Cupping, Prenatal Massage, Sports Massage, Swedish Massage, and Shiatsu.

I incorporate my training into a customized, multi-modality healing session tailored to you and your needs. If requested, I can also do full sessions in any of the above.

I also worked for 5 years in a Pelvic Floor clinic. I am trauma-informed, compassionate, and can assist with pelvis and pelvic floor issues, including pudendal neuralgia, sciatica, incontinence, and easing symptoms of endometriosis.

I am also trained in Reiki, up to level 3. I tend to not do full sessions of Reiki, preferring to incorporate it into a larger bodywork session, if requested.

If you would like to discuss whether my expertise can help your particular issue, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

It's completely up to you and your preferences. I can work over activewear, or light loose-fitting clothing like pajamas. I can also use spa style sheet draping techniques if you want to fully undress. If you want anything that involves oil/lotion (e.g. swedish massage, sliding cupping technique) then it will be necessary to undress at least the area you desire to be worked on.

Please let me know how I can best help you feel most comfortable.

For sure! If that makes you more comfortable.

You are in control of your own experience, so whatever works best for your needs.

Please note - If my client is a minor, I **must have** an adult guardian present in the room at all times.

There can be pain - sometimes fairly intense - as I work to release tension and adhesion. Sometimes it hurts as I work to restore blood-flow, hydration, separate stuck tissues, or release held muscle tension.

I ask my clients to differentiate between 'productive' pain and 'scary' pain, and I will always listen to your cues. And the goal is to ultimately create relief from pain and stiffness afterwards, and longer-term.

Many of my clients experience unexpected emotions, especially when I get into 'older' areas of held tension.

This is completely normal! We can pause the work, keep going, talk about it, or not. When this happens, I do find that both the emotional and physical improvements tend to be meaningful.

Effects are different for everyone, and depends on the underlying issues - but most people experience significant "quick-fix" relief after even just one session. Longer laster improvements tend to take hold after 3 to 4 sessions.

That said, I highly recommend investing in a traditional 10-session series, where I work on your body from the ground up, for more lasting relief.

What I do is a kind of releasing and resetting of your body - but it's up to you to create new patterns of movement to help avoid rebound. That can take time, multiple sessions, or sometimes (if the behavior pattern persists) it might require ongoing maintenance to help relieve pain. But every one of my clients has experienced significant improvement in the quality of their life and movement.

The traditional recommended course of treatment for Structural Integration is a 10 session series, every 1-to-2 weeks, in order to holistically address fundamental issues from the ground up.

That said, I know that not everyone can afford to spend the time and resources to do a full series - and even single sessions can address many kinds of discomfort and pain.

For acute issues I recommend a weekly session for at least 3-4 weeks.

Many of my clients choose to incorporate 'maintenance' bodywork into their life on a regular weekly or fortnightly basis. I recommend at least once a month for maintenance and preventative bodywork.

If even that is too much - I like to tell my clients to treat themselves at least as well as they treat their car. Please keep up with regular "oil changes", and keep your fascia lubricated!

I would rather you pay less per session but do it more frequently, for your own sake - this is another reason why I choose to offer a sliding scale.

Traditionally no, in order to connect with the deeper layers of fascia. But I will do so upon request (depending upon skin's condition) or if I'm using a modality that requires it. EG circulatory massage, or sliding cupping techniques.

If requested, I usually use unscented coconut or apricot kernel oil. You can provide your own preferred oil, as well.

Absolutely. I have worked on people of all sizes, large and small, and my table is rated to carry up to 750lbs as working weight (3000lbs static weight). I have experience with Strong Man competitors, Cross-Fitters, MMA fighters, as well as more frail and petite clients recovering from major surgery or illness.

Some of my clients also have connective tissue disorders like Ehlers-Danlos, which requires special care and attention.

It is my honor to adapt to whatever your particular body requires, to best help it heal.

I recommend drinking lots of water. Allow time to rest and relax, and if you can, avoid overly strenuous physical activity and deep, intense stretching for the next 2-3 days. This will allow the fascia to recover, and improve range of motion.

If you have an athletic event coming up (EG marathon, tournament, game, etc), please let know in advance, so I can either moderate the treatment, or we can schedule accordingly.

Yes, I work on minors. I require written consent from a parent or legal guardian, in advance, and I also need a parent or legal guardian to be present in the room at all times.

Occasionally, yes! Sign up for my newsletter to get informed about my special flash sales, and where I will be in the next week or two. I also give discounts for referrals, and am happy to discuss rates for multiple people in the same location.
